Stuck!

The first time I ever saw this idea was on Pinterest. Ummm, yes, I'm a terrible pin addict. I know I probably pin at least 5 pins a day. I'm thinkin' it would be a good idea to take some of them off once I've completed them...I wonder, what do you do?  I just love going to a place where I can see fabulous ideas and my own style organized in to one great spot. It gives me a sense of order in my life. Something I really need right now. Blah, blah, blah! On to the real reason for this post!

Here is the original picture my idea evolved from:

Pinned Image
stinkin' cute, huh?!

I have an affinity for witches...I'm my mother's daughter, what can I say? It took me a few years to realize this draw I had that was compiling into quite a collection. My mother is the main reason I love Halloween.  She always dresses up as a witch, if she dresses up, and is a lot of fun in her blacked out teeth and cackly laugh, thus, I believe, the tendency to decorate in and seek out witches. I don't know at what point enough is enough, but I still don't think I have a satisfactory stash.
Anyway, when I was creating this and gathering supplies, I was going completely off of memory of the above picture. One day I got busy, and this is what I came up with:

Our fireplace is DEFINITELY not like the pretty one above...by any means, I'm totally aware of that. But given what I have to work with until that project becomes priority around here, I decided that something was positively lacking. So-o-o, I wracked my brains to think of what might fill in that space. I really liked this other idea on my pinterest boards:
and was completely going for this look, originally.
*note: you have got to check out this post over at The Project Girl. So inspiring!
But as my mind proves to function, other plans came into motion, and I made this sign:
I have to say that I'm overall pretty happy with my spooky (or not so spooky) Fireplace and mantel:
Although,
we can't decide...
is the witch IN?
...or is the witch OUT?
She seems to be...
STUCK!

WIWW

Lots going on today, so this is a quick pin-up. I'm convinced that no matter what I try, I am not destined to get a good, focused shot of myself for these wiww. Why is it that I can take great shots of anything else, other than me? Funny. Maybe I'm not destined to do wiww? Anyway...one more try!

I've always loved this skirt! I added the layers to this skirt to make it a tad longer. It was too short for my liking before. Love it now!

Hats off, hats on

First off, I want to say that I LOVE glitter. I mean, really love glitter. Secondly, it's a darn good thing I do because after this project, a glitter hater would ban that sparkly stuff for-e-ver. I couldn't wait to get started on this project once I learned about it and set out immediately to find a victim good candidate for my quest. I instantly thought of this poor excuse of a lamp sitting limply on our sofa table in our living room:

I quickly disassembled and got to work spray painting it:

While thrift shopping, I found these other pieces with potential. I sprayed the single ones and left the triple  one as is, only removing the candlestick holders.
Then I added styrofoam balls sprayed with adhesive & covered with glitter, and finished them off with a clear acrylic spray coat to seal the glitter. This step is ESSENTIAL.
Note: This process took days, since the children found it so interesting and between allowing coats to dry, tried their hand at glitter fun. Everything inside now sparkles. EV-ERY-THING. From our teenage boys, to the family van. Seriously.

I first saw this idea at a local boutique. The origional pieces I learned from, were made with a similar process, but with a crochet spool dipped in glue and larger glitter {like the one on the back, lefthand side}. I had to mount it to something in order for it not to drop too far over the base because of the hole in the center, so I used a juice can lid and sprayed it the same color. The three tier is made with a styrofoam ball cut in half and mounted onto a juice can lid, for the center one, and just stuffing covered with fabric and mounted the same way for the two smaller ones. I was experimenting to see what process and look I liked more.  Although the glitter is fun, the fabric idea is far quicker and less painstaking, although more of a challenge to make perfect.

Now to the finished product, shall we take a look?

I feel a tea party coming on...care for a biscuit?

Mission accomplished. Finally.
Ta-ta!

WIWW

If you have never taken the chance to join What I Wore Wednesday with the Pleated Poppy, hop on over there for a peak on the whats and whys of it all, and come join the challenge! I only got two blurry pictures this week that I tried editing and fixing to no avail. After the time I took trying, I didn't want to invest any more of my energies toward it, so you are stuck with blurr, baby toy mess, and poor color. There is not a good place in any part of my house, that I've found, for these pix. So--ooo, here ya go!
3/4 sleave blouse- Forever 21
cami- local boutique
skirt- ummm...Wal-mart??
boots & necklace- Target (love!)

Long sleeve shirt- forever 21
pants- Charlotte Russe
cardi & shoes-Ross
necklace- 20th bday preasant from best friend (love giraffes)

Maybe next weeks pix will be better. Until then, have a happy week!

No Shoes

I love a photography challenge so that I force myself to do new things with my camera and get to know it better. The challenge this week at A Step in the Journey is something called Bokeh. I know, fun huh? This is actually my favorite method in photography and one I know quite well since I do it all the time when photographing my jewelry, so I took it as a challenge to capture a visual with an intended background to create a story.

How'd I do?

An Award

I sincerely have loved blogging. There are so many fun people I have met and come to know since I have enjoyed the land of blog, that I never would have otherwise. I believe I have the best followers EVER! They all say the kindest things and are genuinely fun to share with. You can't imagine my surprise today when I discovered I had won an award from Inspire me Heather.
Sincerely? Me?! Yep, the Versitle blogger award. {Thank you, Heather!!!} What is that, you ask? I'm not sure I really know,

                                                               but here are the rules:
1. Thank and link back to the person who gave the award to you
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Send it along to 15 other bloggers and let them know you have awarded them!

Soooo, here are my 7 things:
1. I don't like to make my bed. I told my husband just before I accepted his proposal of marriage that this is something I don't do. If the bed is made, more often then not,  he's made it. There has to be something really motivating to me in order for me to carry out this task on my own, such as a new bedroom set, ensamble, or someone coming over to see the house. I don't like to make the time for it since it's just going to come all undone in the end anyway.
2. Speaking of beds, I worked for 6 mos., while pregnant with our sixth child, running a paper route at the crazy hour of 3:30 a.m. to earn enough money to purchase our bedroom set that I totally LOVE and was worth every paper run.
3. If I don't have a project to do, I create one. I can't stand to not to be crazy busy. Being idle makes me absolutely nuts.
4. Brussle sprouts are my least favorite food. Never could stand them. They induce vomiting. the only thing they are good for in my eyes, are playing dinner with barbies. It's a mini lettuce head.
5. I got a keyboard for Christmas when I was nine, speaking of vomiting. I threw up all over it in my excitement. My poor mother. Must've been the orange juice on an empty stomache (a Christmas morning tradition) Need I say that I don't have this same tradition with my own children?
6. My first car was a green Audi. I thrashed it boon-dockin' one too many times in the Mojove desert where I was raised. It broke down on Halloween night while I was taking some friends home from a horror movie we'de just seen. We were afraid to look under the car.
7. I change my hairstyle (and often hair color) at least once every three months. Few of my pictures have me with the same "do", thus making each year's family picture interesting.

Now to pass on the fun!
I'm sending this award on to 15 amazing, totally beyond me bloggers. With only an exception to a couple, these blogs have less than 100 followers. They are really worth the visit:

Sooooo, what~are~ya waiting for?! ;)

Gone is September

To wrap up September, I just wanted to share a few pins from my boards that I loved for back to school gift ideas. I thought they might come in handy for teacher/end of the school year gifts as well. Enjoy!

Teacher's first aid gift from Bee in our Bonnet. I think this could make a great "Teacher's Day" gift as well:

Loved this bus frame From Tales of a trophy wife :
