comfort quote

I'm always feeling like I want to post something, anything, that I've been working on or done, onto my blog. Lately, it's everything I can do just to work on a project. I was quite comforted when I came across this quote today at 320 Sycamore (which I highly recommend you checkout, by-the-way!)choose the kids
I feel like I can now be content with having chosen what I know to be the most important use of my time. I still can't wait for the time in my life that I can share all the fantastic things I've been doing! Hopefully this quote can bring others comfort too.
                                                      ....for now-Toodles!

The Simple Things

A couple Sundays ago I was busy getting the children ready for church when the older boys were leaving  told me that I needed to come to the door. At first I asked them why since things were so hectic and I was in the middle of doing one of the girls' hair. They said, "just come to the door, there's something here you need to get."
Curiously I came to the door to find this:
I can't even tell you what a sweet surprise it was and how great it made me feel. Especially upon reading the sweet card attached.
That day we enjoyed them throughout our Sunday dinner, Steve and I peering around them to talk to each other ;)
(doesn't Jeremy set a pretty table?!)
Then for the next couple weeks, they graced our island, greeting us with a cheery welcome each time we entered the kitchen. And reminding me that,

Simple things we say and do can make all the difference in people's lives.
I'm so grateful for thoughtful friends who bless my life each and every day with their words of encouragement and kindness.
I am so blessed!

What We've Gathered

As soon as I spotted this shirt at our local thrift shop, I knew I was going to buy it! It was a great price. But I don't normally like to wear stripes since the general fashion world advises against it, claiming that the stripes make you look wider than you are. And they do. But I have seen so many cute outfits put together with stripes lately and was dying to try it. This shirt was the perfect style and color. All except for- the sleeves. I love this open cap sleeve for my little girls, but not for me. So when I was visiting at my Mother's and my talented sister-in-law was with me, I asked her to gather up the sleeve on the opening in three gathers and sew it off with a simple needle and thread. While I was still wearing it:

And then we topped it off with a button.
Didn't she do a great job?!
I love this shirt and wear it all the time now.
Some day I'll have to show you the whole shirt...I don't know why we didn't get a picture of it in it's entirety.
Who knows what I'm thinking half the time?
Hope this inspires you to resue something you love with a simple fix!

Oh, please leave a comment to let me know you dropped by! I love to hear your thoughts. ;)

flower girls

There's this children's second hand shop up the street called "My Little Children". For the last few years, every time I would go there I would see these adorable little dolls on a shelf display near the registers in the front.

The owner there made it quite clear they weren't for sale, so one day I asked them if I could take pictures. They were so darling I just couldn't stand it, and I knew one day I would go home and make them from things I had lying around in my craft closet.
They don't look like they'd be that hard to make.

A few months ago, however, the children's store changed locations to a shopping center further up the street. One day I decided to step in for a peek, and saw these little darlings on display,

only they didn't say they were for sale this time. I picked them up and asked the sales lady if they were for sale. She told me they weren't, but that since they'd had them so long, she would sell them for Seven dollars and fifty cents a piece!!!

Holy STEEL of a deal. Was I ever happy. It was everything I could do to contain my happydance. I was seriously willing to pay double that!

Today, these little beauties are an asset to the girl's room, gracing their dresser with their ever adorable presence. We've named them "Sugar"

and "Spice".

I'm so happy to call them ours. I was once told I'm easy to please....
