Mud Room Organization

Before I started the project in the garage, I was wanting to complete the mudroom. Now that we park in the garage, we naturally come through this area a lot more, making it more accessible and user friendly. Though I had designed and created a seating, coat hanging, and cubby area on the other side, we had an essentially blank wall of useless space. For years I have agonized on how to create some order with the children's school work and calendaring items. I finally turned to my inspirations boards on Pinterest, and decided this was the perfect spot for creating order.

As I've shared before, I finally decided that the intertwining theme would be Rain, Sunshine, and colors (appropriately) of Gray and Yellow. In the above picture, the room was colored an off white green color. So I painted it a gray-beige. I wanted gray, but knew it needed to have a touch of beige, or I wouldn't be happy with it. When I first opened the can to paint, I was really worried because it looked too taupey colored. I went ahead a painted it anyway and am in LOVE with the color! (Below) It is the perfect Greige. Depending on the lighting it looks gray, and then can change to beige. Perfect for me, since I like change so much and can tend to be indecisive.
As you can see I started out with just a plain 1/4" sheet of plywood that was painted with chalkboard paint.

Then I measured and added 1"x3" mdf board as a frame and made 5 sections, enough for each child. I loved the idea of a shelf and added that in the end.

The shelf provides a place to put artwork and accessories.

This print I saw on Etsy and decided to make my own. It is a fun way to remind my children what they mean to me.
The chalkboard pails were a Target find in the $1 section over the summer.
I'm sure you remember my Fence to Frame project. One of my favorites. You can read about it HERE.
The original idea for this project had coat hangers. Since I didn't really need those, I mounted clips to display artwork and hang homework as a reminder for papers that need to be completed.
Here is a view from the seating area on the wall across the way.

I'm really excited with how it turned out.
Let's take a look at that again, shall we?
